The Pantaloon's - The Taming of the Shrew
29 May - 01 June
The Pantaloons formed in 2004 and have had great success with their performances of Romeo & Juliet, Cymbeline and 2007's A Midsummer Night's Dream, having completed nationwide tours to critical acclaim from press and public alike. This is the first year the company have given up their city jobs to perform 5 * Shakespeare for free on a full time basis.
Caitlin Storey, who has been with the company since the beginning says "The Pantaloons like to keep Shakespeare accessible as we believe good quality theatre should be easily available to everyone. We have taken Shakespeare away from the confines of a theatrical space and injected the fun and playful nature that would have been an important element back in the 1600s".
Play Synopsis:
Everyone wants to marry the beautiful Bianca, but her father will not let her wed until someone is man enough to take on the challenge of wooing his eldest daughter, the Shrewish Kate. Is the boorish, sexist swash buckler Petruchio up to the challenge? And the question remains, can a Shrew ever really be Tamed?! A hilarious twist on one of Shakespeare's finest comedies; chaos ensues as just five actors play over thirty parts, with plenty of music, audience interaction and surprises.
